Wonton Apple Pies
These wonton apple pies are super easy and fun to make and a great alternative if you are short on time to make a traditional apple pie! The small serving size is also helpful for portion control.
P.S. apples and lemons are both lower in potassium fruits that people have been advised to watch their potassium intake can savor this tasty apple pie dessert too!
<INGREDIENTS> 12 servings
12 wonton wrappers
For the apple pie filling:
4 small apples, peeled and diced
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
2 tablespoons water
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Optional: lemon zest or peel to garnish
<DIRECTIONS>
1. For the apple pie shell: preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Place the wonton wrappers into 12-serving muffin tin (non-stick). Bake for 7-9 minutes until golden brown. Remove from oven and allow the wrappers to cool completely.
2. While the wrappers are in the oven, make the apple pie filling by placing all of the filling ingredients into a cooking pan. Put in butter first. Cook over low heat and stir intermittently until the apples have softened and the liquid becomes almost syrup-like.
3. Let both pie shell and filling cool a bit and then assemble by spooning the apple pie filling into the wonton wrappers. Optional: add lemon zest or peel on top to garnish!
