Green Onion Biscuits
The recipe for these savory green onion biscuits is adapted from King Arthur Flour’s baking powder biscuits recipe (https://www.kingarthurflour.com/recipes/baking-powder-biscuits-recipe). A few modifications were made to the original recipe to make these biscuits lower in sodium and more kidney friendly. Your family, friends and loved ones that are watching their sodium intake or someone you know has chronic kidney disease can enjoy them too! Not all biscuits are bad! #yourhealthmatters
P.S. these green onion biscuits are also perfect for making egg biscuit sandwiches for breakfast!
Below are the recipe modifications that I recommend to make the biscuits lower in sodium and more kidney friendly!
1. Reduce salt to 1/4 teaspoon.
2. Add flavor to the biscuits with fresh green onions. Use 3 green onions, cleaned, dried, and chopped, and then add them to the flour mixture after Step 4 of the King Arthur Flour’s biscuit recipe.
3. Use heavy cream in place of milk or buttermilk to lower the phosphorus content if you or someone you are serving have been advised to watch phosphorus intake.
Happy baking and enjoy!
